Thermal Imaging is the production of infrared or heat pictures which can pick up images which are often invisible to the naked eye. Potential problems are highlighted where there is an excess of heat being released by a component, which if left undetected can result in failure and, in extreme cases, fire.
Thermal Imaging can detect:
Thermal imaging should not be used as an alternative to a fixed wire inspection but be used in conjunction with it as it is limited in its ability to detect all electrical faults.
Thermal imaging photos can be taken of any electrical or mechanical equipment.
These photos will show if any components such as electrical connections or equipment are overheating. If these hot components were to fail they could result in major plant shutdowns or even electrical fire.
These pictures show an example of an overheating 3 pole MCB, identified in a recent survey.
After undertaking the survey a report is produced showing infra-red and standard images of the problem areas.
